Our Kung Fu

For ages thirteen and older, our adult Kung Fu classes teach Kung Fu, which is a fighting system composed of punches, kicks, throws, and joint locks. We teach these concepts through forms (memorized sequences of movements), sparring (safe and friendly fighting), drills, and bag work. We practice many weapons, including staff, saber, straight sword, spear, fan to name a few!

We spend a substantial amount of time stretching to increase flexibility, and emphasize body alignment and awareness to keep the practice as safe as possible. We teach traditional martial arts, which means we gain skill through mindful repetition. The style of Kung Fu we do is practical and based on combat and self-defense, not the acrobatic or flashy movements of contemporary wushu. As such, classes are not only for people who are young and/or in peak physical condition. Our classes are meant to meet every student where they’re at physically, as long as they are committed to improvement.

Our only competition is with ourselves. Our classes are large, diverse, inclusive, and friendly. You will always be able to find a classmate willing to help you if you get stuck on a move.

Kung Fu classes are taught by Laoshi Eliot Prisby.
