Kids Kung Fu

“Through the conditioning of our body, we discipline our mind and gain a greater understanding of ourselves. By understanding ourselves, we learn to live in harmony with our emotions and our environment. This cultivation of the whole being gives us the serenity to carry out our life tasks.”

Wen-Ching Wu, “Kung Fu Elements”

Learning Kung Fu

Though we think of ourselves as a Kung Fu 功夫 family, Kung Fu 功夫 is not a team sport. It challenges each student according to his or her own individual strengths and weaknesses, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

For ages six through twelve-years-old, our Kids Kung Fu classes teach Kung Fu, which is a fighting system composed of punches, kicks, and stances. We teach these concepts through a variety of exercises that are fun and help increase the students’ awareness of themselves, others, and their environments.

We emphasize safety and respect for classmates and teachers. We teach traditional martial arts, which means we gain skill through mindful repetition. We balance the discipline of martial arts with the fun and excitement of moving one’s body around and interacting with other people and one’s environment.

Kids’ Kung Fu classes are taught by Laoshi Eliot Prisby, as well as a team of qualified assistant instructors.

Note: Children must be at least six years old to attend classes.
